NSI reported growth in the export

April 15, 2015

Exports increased by nearly 8% in January and February compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary data from the national statistical institute. Imports also grew, but at a significantly slower pace. Surveys among industrial enterprises, however, show the intention of shrinking investments by 30%.

For the first two months of the year Bulgaria exported goods for 6.8 billion Leva, which makes growth of 7.7 percent. Although the increase in exports significantly outpaced the imports, our foreign trade balance is negative by more than one billion Leva. Imports for the first two months of the year was 7.9 billion Leva and its increase from a year earlier is less than two percent.

Among the countries of the European Union our main trading partners are Germany, Italy and Greece and in third countries - Turkey, China and Serbia.

Meanwhile, surveys among entrepreneurs in the country, held in March, indicate an intention of serious fall in investments. In the private sector, which represents 81% of the investments in fixed assets, the decrease is expected to be nearly 38%. It will be felt mostly in sectors with the biggest investments - for example, energy and water industries.
